Willard Youngs Obituary

 

Willard A. “Will” Youngs, 88, of Belding passed away Saturday evening July 3, 2021, at Mission Point of Belding. Will was born July 5, 1932, in St. Johns, the son of Ralph and Glenna (Mead) Youngs. He graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1950 and following graduation, proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked for a number of years as the sales manager at Luvan Corporation in Belding. He later retired from Vouges after many years of service. Will had a lifelong love of sports, serving as a referee for 39 years as well as working with Bub Mahar for 40 years announcing the Belding Redskins sports teams. His usual attire, whether at work or at play, was orange and black. He had also started, with others, the little league program in Belding that continues to this day. Will had served as a city council member, as mayor and held membership at the Belding VFW and American Legion. He was a past member of the Ionia- Belding Masonic Lodge and for many years was a member of the Belding Lions Club serving in all the offices and starting the annual 5K Labor Day Run. Will liked people, enjoyed the many friendships he had made with countless people throughout the years and always had time for a good story. In earlier years, Will was active at the Belding United Methodist Church. He will be greatly missed and will always be remembered with a smile by his family, his friends and the many people he had helped. He was married on August 30, 1952, in Orleans to Joan First. Will is loved and survived by his wife Joan and their children Gary ( Tammy) Youngs, Gail (Steve) Brechting all of Belding, Robert (Karen) Youngs, of Crystal; his grandchildren Mark (Amber) Youngs, Mandy (Christopher) German, Kelli French, Kyle Brechting, Cassie (Keegan) Rice, Katie (Brett) Sanford, Kara Youngs, fifteen great grandchildren and his siblings Donald (Betty) Youngs, of South Carolina; Sandra (Merle) Carr of California. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Friday July 9, 2021, at the Belding United Methodist Church with Pastor Donna Sperry officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM at Johnson Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Interment will be in River Ridge Cemetery, Belding. Memorials may be given to the Belding High School athletic programs, envelopes will be available at funeral home and at the church.
