Thomas Earl Doty 73 of Orleans passed away Friday evening March 25, 2022, at U of M-Metro Health in Wyoming. Tom was born on March 7, 1949, in Belding, the son of Earl and Irene (Moore) Doty. He graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1967, attended Michigan Tech and later graduated from Montcalm Community College-Nursing Program. He had retired from the Laurels of Kent in Lowell. Tom had a huge, lifelong interest in family history, genealogy and the general history of Orleans, Belding and Ionia County. He belonged to several Historical Societies, many on a national scale including a lifetime membership of the Mayflower Society. He was one of many founding members of the Belding Historical Society and worked hard to preserve the history of the area for future generations. Tom had literally traced his family tree back so far and in including everyone, it would take up the side of an old farm barn. He was also very involved with the family orchard business, enjoyed working the farm and hunting. Tom is loved and survived by his wife Connie and their children, William (Kaneka) Doty of Orleans, Suzanne (Donal) Mahoney of Ionia, Charles (Dana) Eady of Coral. Timothy (Stacy) Doty of Comstock Park, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Catherine and a grandson, CJ. A private family graveside service will take place at Orleans Township Cemetery. A Memorial Service will take place Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 11 AM, at Shiloh Community Church, with Pastor James Floyd presiding. Following the service a luncheon will take place at the church. Memorials may be given to the Belding Museum. Envelopes will be available at the church and at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding where funeral care has been entrusted.
