Shannon Stank Obituary

 

Shannon Rae Stank, 69, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Mission Point in Greenville. Shannon was born on April 19, 1951 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Raymond E. and Betty J. (Wiseman) Stank. After graduating from high school in 1969 Shannon participated in the Miss Michigan Pageant,  with her stunning beauty, style and grace she became second runner up. In 1970 she graduated from Grand Rapids Beauty College. Shannon was born with and enjoyed a life-long love of music. She secured her first record deal in 1995 and released her first album called “ Pale Circle” in 1996 which was recorded with the Reba McEntire backup band. Shannon was known as a “one take” wonder being able to sing and record in one setting. During the mid and late 1990’s her music career had really come together for her and she toured and opened for Daryle Singletary in 1998”.  Her music career ended with the tragic decline of her health. While dealing with many health challenges Shannon never let her spirit nor her love of family and life wavier. Shannon was known for her thrift leading to her to starting her own store known as Deep Discount on Belding Road where BC Pizza is today. She enjoyed bingo, gardening, crafting and loved giving gifts to family and friends. She was known as “The Flower Lady of Grandview Towers in Port Huron” for her lovely flowers she had when living there.  She loved lilacs and fuchsias. Her favorite color was purple and her favorite character was Betty Boop. She called herself Lucy because you always have to laugh at life. In 2003 she graduated from Olympia for her Medical Assistant Certificate.

She is loved and survived by her children; Raymond (Britney) VerWys of Jenison, Araminta (Brian) VerWys-Mino of Belding, Nina VerWys of Port Huron, Afawna E. (Adam) Johnson of Belding and Christine Nevius of Wayland , step-children; Anissa (Jeff) Doucette of Eckerman, Sarah (Jimmy) Bedrick of Kalkaska and Erica (Rob) Edgington of the Upper Peninsula, grandchildren; Nikie Nevius, Tana Nevius, David Nevius, Devin Pardee, Kenny Chapp, Jared VerWys, Gabriel VerWys, Aurora Johnson, Grace Chapp, Emma Chapp, Ethan Chapp, Blake Brandenburg, Austin Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Robbie Edgington, Elijah VerWys, Abigail Bedrick, Kimberly Johnson, Lilly Brandenburg, Lucas VerWys, Thomas Johnson, Zoey VerWys, Grayson Bedrick, great grandchildren; Timmy,  Liam, Tabetha, Trenton, Ezekiel, Elijah, Ezra, Justin II, Mason, Tyler, Olivia, Addalyn and Pasley, sister and brother-in-law; Kelly (Rick) Abbott of Vacaville, CA, two cousins; Suelynn (Wayne) Mills and their children; Drew Chatman (David Spencer), Brad (Kimberly) Chatman and their children; Nathan and Daniel, Janice (Dick) McKay all of Grand Rapids, one sister-in-law; Susan Stank, nieces and nephews; Rochelle Stank Pleasants (Daniel), Eric Stank, Anthony (Caitlin) Abbott, Natalie (Cole) Odle, Ashlyn Abbott and Casey Abbott.  Shannon was preceded in death by her parents, two aunts; Freda and Marsha, sister and brother-in-law; Kimberly (Peter) Harris, brother Dale Stank, sister-in-law; Karen Stank, grandparents Tony (Nattie) Stank, Gladys Wiseman, stepson; Kenneth Pardee. granddaughter; Arianna Gabrielle VerWys and cousin David McKay.

In keeping with family wishes cremation has taken place and a time to celebrate her life and accomplishments will take place at 3:00 PM Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Adams Acres on Belding Road, Belding. Inurnment will be in Rosedale Memorial Park, Grand Rapids. Memorials may be given to the Belding B Foundation. Envelopes will be available at Adams Acres or the funeral home.
