Ronald “Ron” Harvey 86 of Lakeview died Thursday afternoon December 3, 2020 in Lakeview. Ron was born on March 16, 1934 in Langston, the son of Ivan and Edna (Cole) Harvey. He graduated from Lakeview High School with the Class of 1952 and later served four years with the Michigan National Guard, 1073rd Maintenance Unit. Ron lived a long and active life that consisted of many years of public service. He was active in the Lakeview Lions Club, serving in many capacities as well as running for Deputy District Director with the Michigan Lions Club, served on the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce, served many years on the Lakeview Board of Education, was active in the Trufant Lodge # 456 F A & M and was a longtime member of the New Life United Methodist Church of Lakeview where he helped in many offices. During his working years he was a manager at Gibson’s in Greenville for several years, later working at High Q in Lakeview, then for Greenville Wire and owning a Union 76 Gas station in Lakeview. In retirement Ron worked part time at the Brown-Teman Funeral Home in Greenville, working with his old friend, Jim Teman who he had met when he was in the National Guard. Ron had also worked at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Belding. Ron enjoyed his work at the funeral homes and with his quiet, caring personality, he was able to help others .In high school Ron played the drums and later played in small area bands thru the years. Ron enjoyed fishing, camping, watching his children play sports and organizing family scavenger hunts. The holidays were also a special time for Ron. He enjoyed Christmas, especially decorating the house and staying up late wrapping presents and making sure everything was just right. At Easter he liked hiding the eggs and watching the kids find where he had carefully hidden them. Ron enjoyed conversation with family and friends and was a good storyteller. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was married on July 16, 1958 to Myla Walcutt. Ron is loved and survived by his wife Myla and their children, Lisa (Craig) Morse of Titusville, Florida, Lance (Casey) Harvey, Shannon (Amie) Harvey all of Lakeview, a daughter in law, Judith Harvey of Portland, his grandchildren, Dallas Nimz, Kayleigh Harvey, Richard Harvey, Tyler Harvey, Alexis Gritter, Trenton Harvey, and Blayne Harvey. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gary Harvey, Ricky and wife Linda Harvey, a niece Michelle Harvey and a son Kyle Harvey. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday December 8, 2020 at New Life United Methodist Church, M-46 in Lakeview with Pastor Tim Wright officiating, and is restricted to immediate family only due to Covid restrictions. Visitation for the public will be one hour before the service at the church. Masks and social distancing will be required. Committal prayers and full military honors will take place at 2:00 PM at Riverside Cemetery in Langston and will be open to the public, with masks and social distancing. Memorials may be given to the New Life United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at church or Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding where funeral care has been entrusted.
