Robert “Bob” L. Childs, 94, of Belding, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022, in Rockford. Robert was born in Belding on January 5, 1928, the son of Charles and Ethelyn (Steele) Childs. He graduated with the Belding High School Class of 1945. His high school career included playing basketball, football, baseball, and playing in the band. Robert then went on to attend the University of Michigan and transferred to Ferris State University. He proudly served in the US Army, the Pacific theater of World War II. Robert married Alice Morris in Belding, on December 5, 1953. He retired from Extruded Metals. Robert and Alice were long-time members of Shiloh Community Church. Robert had many interests, including fishing and golf, coaching little league, dance club, and taking trips with friends. Robert was a member of the American Legion and was a big fan of the University of Michigan, and the Detroit Tigers. He was blessed with a long and faith filled life.
Robert is loved and survived by his wife Alice, his children, Daryl (Jacqueline) Childs, Dean (Wendy) Childs, and Diane (David) Andres, all of Belding, and Deb (Joe) Karasiewicz of Cannon Township, grandchildren, Noelle, Nikki, Kristin, Philip, Elizabeth, Ashley, Ryan, Robert, Matthew, Christian, Lindsey, Jade, Christina, and Alyssia, several great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Gaye Huizenga.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 11:00 AM, at Shiloh Community Church, Orleans, with Pastor James Floyd officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8, at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will take place at River Ridge Cemetery in Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to Shiloh Community Church, Belding American Legion, or Faith Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at the church.
