Randy L. Brownell, 74, of Belding, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, April 9, 2024. The son of Rollin L. and Cora (VandenBos) Brownell, he was born on April 25, 1949, in Belding, Michigan. He attended Belding schools where he graduated with the BHS class of 1967. A lifelong farmer in the Belding area, Randy also worked for SpartanNash in Byron Center until his retirement. On July 15, 1972, he married Susan Leppink at the First Baptist Church in Belding and together they would raise their two daughters.
Randy was a real-life MacGyver, with great creative skill at fixing anything with the items at hand; a fence with binder twine, a tractor with vise grips, and just about anything with a stick! Yet in his death, we are reminded that some challenges require outside help. While he was known for his great physical strength, hard work ethic, and a deep sense of responsibility, the battles Randy fought in his own mind became overwhelming.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Susan, of Belding; daughters Angie (Alan) Rummler of Belding and Amy (Jay) Lambrecht of Grosse Pointe Woods; his grandchildren, who he enjoyed spending time with, Johnny Lambrecht, Emma Lambrecht, Ella Lambrecht, Jake Rummler, and Vivian Rummler; two sisters; extended family members on Susan’s side; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
A gathering time to celebrate his life will take place on Tuesday, April 16 from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Belding. The family has requested that memorial contributions be considered for Faith Community Christian School or Gift of Life-Michigan.
There is no greater demonstration of faith and hope than a farmer planting seeds in a field. If you, or someone you know, is struggling to feel hope, please seek help. The AgriStress Helpline is available 24/7 by phone or text at 833-897-2474.
