Linda Baker Obituary

Linda B. Baker, 67, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Belding, went to be with her Lord on March 27, 2024 after an extended health struggle. The daughter of Fain and Marguerite (Robinson) Nickel, she was born on June 26, 1956, in Greenville, Michigan. A 1975 graduate of Belding High School, Linda spent much of her life working in day care tending to the needs of little ones. She absolutely loved her time spent with children, even volunteering for many years at Zinser Elementary School in Walker, Michigan.

On April 21, 1979, she married John Baker at the Belding United Methodist Church and they would have celebrated 45 years of marriage in a few weeks. Linda loved the outdoors. From camping and campfires to sunsets and fireworks, she embraced nature wherever she was. She loved ceramics, painting, going to the beach, tubing down the river, riding her bike, and going barefoot whenever possible. Her cooking was always enjoyed by her family and others. Family was very important to Linda, and she loved being with them. She looked forward to attending family reunions where she could catch up with what was happening in everyone’s lives. She enjoyed very special moments with her granddaughter, Jacklyn, as they had a special bond with each other.

Linda is loved and survived by her husband John Baker; daughter Angela Baker; sons John and Ryan Baker; granddaughter Jacklyn Baker; siblings, Mickey (John) Osborn of Perrinton, Danny (Vicki) Nickel of Belding, Marianne Nickel of Belding; many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fain and Marguerite.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at Noon at the Belding United Methodist Church, 301 Pleasant Street, with Pastor Melissa Wagner officiating and her sister Marianne Nickel reading her eulogy. Visitation will take place on Monday evening, April 1 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Belding, and from 10:00 AM at the church until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to Kids Food Basket or DeVos Children's Hospital.
