Leonard Cole, Jr. Obituary

Leonard Jason Cole, Jr, age 65 of Oakland, CA, passed away on March 4, 2024 under the care of hospice. Leonard, “Lenny” or “Jason”, was born in Belding, MI, on September 20, 1958, to Leonard Cole, Sr and Beatrice (Clifford) Cole. They, his brother, John Cole, and stepmother, Mary Cole, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Ray Maher and a granddaughter, Hannah Godfrey.

He is survived by his children, Jeremy (Carol) Cole, Hannah Cole, and Samuel Cole, all of Stanton, MI, Sara (George) Davis of Port Charlotte, FL, and Rebecca (Tom) Godfrey of Hamburg, MI, and his grandchildren, Remington Cole, Jesse Chupp, Addison, Lauren, and Audrey Godfrey. He is also survived by his siblings, Margery (Allan) Forist of Greenville, MI, Charlene Holliday (Fred Hollifield) of Belleville, MI, Marvin (Susan) Holliday of Lakeview, MI, Norman (Christie) Holliday of Clarksville, MI, Barbara Rowley of Lake Odessa, MI, and Louis Cole of Louisville, KY.

Jason is also survived by special friends, Sally DeHaven, Gloria Duag, Mo, and many others from the San Francisco area.

Leonard was known as Lenny while he was growing up. To make a fresh start later in life, he changed to Jason. Jason was three when his mom passed and seven when his dad married Mary Cole who came with four children. Jason grew up in Greenville, MI on a small family farm in this large blended family of eight siblings. It was a very full house. He created special memories with each of his siblings. One special memory with his sister, Marge, was creating choreography to songs played on the stereo. She was able to visit him at the end of November while he was undergoing treatment.  Many new memories were made and old memories were shared during that time.

Jason had become a nurse and spent much of his time caring for others. He was a beloved caregiver to the elderly. He was also an advocate for the underdog. To that end, he took on a role serving the homeless population in the San Francisco area. He is greatly missed.

There will be no formal services. Cremation was handled by Colonial Chapel, Oakland, CA. He will be buried at Baker’s Beach overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge where Ray’s ashes were also buried.
