Kathy Loughin Obituary

LOUGHIN- Kathy Lee Loughin (nee Mejia), age 66 of Greenville, MI, beloved wife; adored mother; best friend, sister and nana, died Sunday, May 28, 2023 in Grand Rapids.  She was born on January 20, 1957, the daughter of Manuel and Patricia Mejia of Belding, MI.  She graduated from Belding High School and went on to a long career at Electrolux (formerly Frigidaire),  followed by various college courses and jobs that served the community.

Kathy spent her entire life nurturing and connecting with others.  Losing her mother at only twelve years old, she became the mama to many of her siblings and that role of mama continued on as she became a group leader at work, mother herself, the baton mom on Wednesdays at Baldwin Heights, an OM coach, a volunteer with a resident from a group home and finally a chauffeur for those who couldn’t drive themselves to doctor’s appointments.

Kathy most loved spending time with her family- born or chosen, walking the Flat River Trail, playing Sequence, Cribbage or Euchre, doing crafts or camping in Six Lakes on the land she helped build up and maintain with her husband Les.  She did not dwell on sadness, but rather found the humor where she could and helped others do the same.  Her message to all near the end of her life was to never stop walking.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband Leslie; daughters, Kristy (Mike) Loughin-Vance of Lowell; Laura Loughin of Douglasville, GA; grandchildren Landry, Oliver and Adeline Vance & Trisha and Ryder Doolittle and their father Joshua Doolittle; sisters and brothers, Melonie (Tom) Tromp, Manuel (Lois) Mejia, Linda (Steve) Rush, Carole (Glenn) Guinnup, Andrea (Randy) Williams, Kristine (Damon) Williamson, Kathi (Mike) Fuhrman, Joe (Val) Mejia, Paul (Trish) Mejia; mother-in Law, Darlene Loughin; and nieces, nephews, cousins and innumerable friends.
