Karlene K Brownell

Karlene Kay Brownell, 76, of Greenville, passed away Monday January 27, 2020 at Marywood Health Center in Grand Rapids. Karlene was born on March 17, 1943 in Greenville, the daughter of Keith and Gladys (Chaney) Foster.

She graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1961. Karlene had a big love of family, especially her grandchildren, and enjoyed attending all of their sporting events in all kinds of weather. Everyone knew her as Gram Gram, as her car license plate indicated. She enjoyed knitting and made the best chocolate chip cookies in the world. She loved her dogs, feeding the birds, and ridding the world of ground squirrels. For many years she had worked as a rural letter carrier at the Belding Post Office, retiring in 2003. She had a deep faith in God, and was an active member of Ashley Baptist Church in Belding.

Karlene married Rob Brownell on May 4, 1963 in Smyrna and he preceded her in death on May 16, 2000. She is also preceded by her parents, sister Cheryl, granddaughter Audra, and her in-laws Rollie and Cora Brownell. She is loved and survived by her children; Scott (Diane) Brownell of Sparta, Kristy (Jeff) Bennett of Greenville grandchildren; Danae (Justin) Howe, Elena Brownell, Eugene Brownell, Joey Bennett, Jerald Brownell as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and special friends Bruce and Marcia Baird, and Ray and Sandy DeGrow.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Ashley Baptist Church, Belding with Dr. David A. Oliver officiating. Committal prayers will follow in Bostwick Lake Cemetery, Rockford. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM Friday January 31, 2020 at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Memorials may be given to Ashley Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or church.
