John T. Lyons, 93, of Belding, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at home. John was born on October 9, 1925 in Ionia County, the son of Francis E. and Elizabeth C. (McCormick) Lyons.
In earlier years as a young man John bought and operated a gas station on Main St. Belding for several years. He later owned J&M Motor Sales in Greenville a very successful used car dealership. After his dealership John continued helping his best friend Blake Hollenbeck with used car sales. He finally retired when he turned 90. John enjoyed Model A Fords, loved spending time with his grandchildren and was always tinkering with a car or old tractor. He enjoyed deer hunting up until he turned 87 years old. John will greatly missed by his family and friends.
John is loved and survived by his daughter; Melissa Eerdmans (Bob Doty) of Belding, grandsons; Jeremiah (Emma) Eerdmans of Mt. Pleasant and James (Jessica) Eerdmans of Sumner, two great grandchildren; Liam and Lawsen, his longtime friend and car buddy Blake Hollenbeck of Greenville, siblings; Rosalie Wireman of Belding, Marie Wireman of Ohio, Marion Nason, Robert Lyons all of Belding. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce, son; James, sisters; Veronica, Katherine, Francis, Mary and a brother Lawrence.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Johnson Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding with Pastor Shane Prewitt of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday evening. Interment will be in the spring at Rest Haven Memory Gardens. Memorials may be given to Victims Advocate of Ionia County or the Belding Library.
