Joan Miller Moran Obituary

Joan Y. Miller Moran, 79, of Belding, passed away on November 29, 2021, under the loving care of her family and hospice after a long battle with dementia. Joan was born on August 1, 1942, in Wyandotte, the daughter of Frank (Pete) and Wilhelmina (Mast) Peterson.

She graduated with the class of 1960 from Belding High School, and during that time met Fredric Miller and the two later married. Together they enjoyed many years of marriage until his death in 1998. Joan was a lifelong resident of Belding and was very proud of that fact. She was fierce in everything that she did, and it earned her the nickname “Indiana Joan”, a moniker she lived up to until the end. Throughout her life she was always involved in some sort of activity, whether it be quilting, sewing, knitting, volunteer work or church activities, she loved to give back especially if it involved kids. She was the children’s librarian for many years in Belding and delighted anytime she would see the kids she watched grow up. Joan loved quilting and could always be found making quilts and doing sewing projects in her free time. She won many awards for her quilting abilities and loved to teach people how to quilt and sew. In 2001, Joan married Daniel Moran and for the next 20 years they spent almost every minute together until his death in August of 2021. They enjoyed scenic road trips, trips to Alaska to visit her family, and very rarely missed a Taco Tuesday in their healthier years. Joan adored spending time with her family and delighted in the time spent with her grandkids and great grandkids. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Joan is survived by her children; Cynthia Miller of Belding, Sam (Kristi) Miller of Alto, her grandchildren; Jessica (Gabe) Krum of Stanton, Sara Heminger of Alaska, Matthew Heminger of Alaska, Samantha (Brad) Tran of Greenville, Lisa Miller (Adam Thompson) of Belding, Tara (Chris) Kraai of Ionia, eight great grandchildren with another on the way, along with many other extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother; Gary Peterson, a grandson; James Miller, and husbands; Fredric Miller and Daniel Moran and her beloved grand dog; Emma.

Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Wednesday, December 1st at Johnson Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Funeral services will be Thursday December 2nd at 11am, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alvah N. Belding Library, where Joan spent so many years helping kids.
