Joan Feuerstein Obituary

Joan Feuerstein, age 90 of Belding, went to be with the Lord on January 29, 2024 under the care of Maple Ridge Manor and  Emmanuel Hospice.  She was born May 10, 1933 in Ionia, MI, the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Risser) Emelander.

Joan graduated from Saranac High School with the Class of 1951.  Music held a special place in her heart, and she loved playing both the piano and organ. She taught piano and organ lessons, organizing delightful recitals. She dedicated many years to serving as an organist in various churches, sharing her passion for music into her nineties with sing alongs at Maple Ridge Manor. Joan was an avid singer, contributing to Easton United Methodist Church Cantatas, Sweet Adelines of Grand Rapids, and Saranac Area Musicians & Singers (SAMS), as well as numerous family weddings and funerals.  Joan loved to dance and cherished the memory of dances at Keene Grange, square dancing, line dancing, church dances and Saturday night dances at Six Lakes.

Shopping was a cherished pastime for Joan, and anything with a hint of bling captured her admiration.  The Ladies Red Hat Society was a source of delight too! She looked forward to an opportunity to dress up in style for festive gatherings. With an artistic flair, Joan took pleasure in both painting and transforming her space into a holiday wonderland with decorations.  Her spontaneous nature extended to her love for travel, eager for an adventure local and internationally.

Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and friend.  Joan married Leo Feuerstein on May 16, 1953.  He preceded her in death on March 2, 2011.  She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Pamella (Mark) Gassman of Harrison & Penny (Jerry) Rosema of Lowell.  She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Kirsten (Adam) Seng,  Travis Vroman, Shawn Rosema, Brad Rosema (Tiffany Shutes), Greg (Elizabeth) Rosema, Kyle (Madi) Gassman, and Alisha (Mike) Houy; her great-grandchildren, Parker, Peyton, Sierra, Andrew, Kendra, Phillip, Samuel, Connor, Charlotte, and Jack; five great-great-grandchildren, Malikai, Theodore, Otto, Zayden, and Oliver; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee, of 57 years and daughter, Peggy.

Joan was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Miriam, where a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024 with Father Leonard Sudlik presiding.  Visitation will take place 10:00 to 11:00 am prior to Mass in the Activity Center, with a luncheon following Mass.
