Jerry Gallagher 93 of Belding passed away Wednesday evening January 11, 2023, at home. Jerry was born on July 30, 1929, in Miami, Florida, the son of James and Bessie (Martin) Gallagher. He graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1948 and proudly served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, during the Korean War. After his return from the war, Jerry married Jane Bowen and together they began their lives together owning their own farm and starting Gallagher Farm Service. Jerry served on the Orleans Township Board for forty years and was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Belding. He was a good friend and neighbor to many people and will be greatly missed.
Jerry is loved and survived by his children, Cindy Chipman of Orleans, Mike (Nicole) Gallagher of Grand Rapids, and Mary (Phil) Seidelman of Ionia, his grandchildren, Scott Chipman, Adam (Brittini) Chipman, and Carl Seidelman, his great grandchildren, Daniel and Kerstin, his brother Paul Gallagher of Miami, a sister-in-law, Gae Gallagher of Key Largo and many friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jane, two brothers, Jim and Paul, and a son in law, Dean Chipman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Wednesday January 25, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Belding with Father Jim Wyse presiding. Visitation will be Tuesday January 24, 2023, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Interment will be in Orleans Township Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Orleans Township Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or church. The family would like to offer a special thank you to all the caregivers of Jerry who helped out over the past year, enabling him to remain at home on the farm.
