Jack J. Mahar

Jack J. Mahar, 95, a longtime Belding resident and World War II Veteran died Friday evening, October 26, 2018 at the Laurels of Carson City. Jack was born on April 22, 1923 in Belding, the son of John and Matilda (Adrian) Mahar.

Jack graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1941 and proudly served in the United States Army, then he worked for Gibson Manufacturing as a tool engineer for 20 plus years.  Jack along with Jack Rhodes owned Hillcrest Lanes in Belding for several years and later sold real estate with Jack Rice. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and golf. He was a longtime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Belding. Jack always enjoyed going to auctions and estate sales forever searching for that one good deal. Jack was also an avid story teller, a good family man and will be greatly missed.

Jack was married on June 16, 1945 in Belding to Louise Newland and they celebrated 73 years together. Jack is loved and survived by his wife Louise and their children; Linda (Richard) Chilton, John (Marty) Mahar all of Saginaw, David C. (Beth) of Dowagiac, 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Ronald “Ronnie” and Charles “Bub”.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Belding with Pastor Robert Wagner officiating. Interment and military honors will follow at River Ridge Cemetery, Belding. Visitation will be Friday November 9, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
