Harry German Obituary

Harry Edwin German, 90, of Greenville, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at Metron of Greenville. Harry was born on August 24, 1927 in Northville, the son of Harry S. and Bernice I. (Nirider) German.
Harry proudly enlisted in the United States Navy on June 24, 1945 when he was only 17 years old. After the war, Harry managed the Five & Dime Store in Belding, worked at the Standard Oil company and then owned and operated Belding Fuel Company while simultaneously starting Germans Orchards. Upon retirement from farming, Harry continued to be active in construction and woodworking. Up until his 90th birthday, he was still maintaining his property, cutting firewood and feeding the wildlife around his home. Harry was an avid hunter, fisherman and fan of the Detroit Tigers. With his wife, Mary L. Smith (whom he married on February 26, 1949), he raised a large family and enjoyed strong friendships with his neighbors.
After his wife Mary suffered a stroke, Harry devoted many years to care for her at home. Mary's death preceded him on August 6, 2015. Harry was also preceded by his parents, and his sister, Tulane Curtis of Dewitt, IA.
In love, Harry will be remembered and missed by his children; Harry David (Sharri) German of Belding, Dale and Doug German of Greenville, Debra (Rod) Collins of Chittenango, NY, Don (Lenore) German of Washburn, WI, and Doreen (Chris) Beltz of Kalamazoo. Harry's legacy will proudly be carried on by 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the American Legion Post 101 of Greenville.

A celebration of Harry’s life will take place at 1:00 PM Saturday January 20, 2018 at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Than Johnson officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment will be at a later date in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Memorials may be given to the Belding United Methodist Church.
