Gregory Heyd Obituary

Gregory Alan Heyd, age 69, of Belding, passed away at home on Saturday, March 18, 2023. He was born in Reed City on April 10, 1953, the son of Arden Heyd and Theresa Grigel. Greg obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan State University where he studied Biology and Fishery. He was an outdoors enthusiast and an avid deer hunter. He loved the outdoors so much that he aspired to become a DNR Officer. He volunteered for the DNR for a few months. During those months he worked in the Fishery, drove the boats, trucks and scaled fish. During that time he lived in Grand Rapids with his wife Cathy, who he married in 1994. He enjoyed getting dinner with his wife at Fred’s Pizza on Plainfield, as well as The Swan. Due to Greg’s mobility, they would move to Belding to a ranch style home that was more easily accessible for him to move about in his wheelchair. Despite his disabilities, he was never discouraged from wanting to help people. He was generously kind to others and would give the shirt off his back if he had to. Spending time at his grandparents’ farm in Tuston, MI with family were some of his fondest memories. Gregory is survived by his wife, Cathy Heyd; mother, Theresa Heyd; sister, Nancy (Jeff) Soltez; brother, Jeffrey (Roxanne) Heyd; sister-in-law, Brenda Wynsma; brothers-in-law, Gordon Wynsma, and Ron (Julie) Wynsma; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Arden Heyd; sister-in-law, Diane Statler; and brother-in-law, Gary Statler. Cremation has taken place. Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home is serving the family. A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
