Donald Hamblin Obituary

Donald J. “Donny” Hamblin 54 of Belding died unexpectedly Tuesday January 19, 2021 at home. Don was born on July 17, 1966 in Greenville, the son of Donald and Sharon (Bowler) Hamblin. He graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1984. After high school he attended Grand Rapids CC while working at Meijer, then graduated from Lansing Community College-Corrections Academy. He worked for the State of Michigan as a corrections officer at Ionia Maximum Security Prison until 1996. Don then began his training and education to become a Licensed Master Electrician and owned his own company, Hamblin Electric in Belding. He was proud to have worked on several projects around Belding, most notably working at the Alvah N. Belding Library. He had a lifelong love of sports, including football, basketball, hockey, baseball, Motocross and NASCAR. He played in several local adult basketball and softball leagues. He enjoyed playing in Gus Macker Basketball Tournaments with his teams earning many trophies and later in life coaching his son Brendan in Little League baseball, football and ELITE baseball travel teams. Don also liked music and joined several generations of Hamblin guitar players. In the 1990’s he had his own DJ Music Service where he  played at many weddings and social events. Don was a hard worker, treasured his many friendships and was very proud of his children and always was close to them. Don quietly took his Catholic faith very seriously. He had a love of family and friends, will be greatly missed and always remembered with a smile by those who knew him. He is loved and survived by his children; Melanie Hamblin, Brendan Hamblin both of Belding, a  grand puppy Ava, girlfriend Allie Gee-Geister of Belding, his mother, Sharon (Jerry) Hamblin Ciganik of Belding, siblings, Greg Hamblin of Belding, Jodi (Bob) Hamblin Camp of Belmont, his nieces, Maggie and Mary Camp, step siblings Sue (Allen) Arnett, Shari (Dave) McCarty both of Belding, the mother of his children, Rhonda Hamblin of Belding, many aunts, uncles,  cousins  and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Donald and grandparents, Ab and Polly Hamblin, Eustace and Bea Bowler.

 Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday January 23, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Belding with Father Jim Wyse presiding. Visitation will be in the church gym before Mass from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. Committal prayers will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Belding. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to St. Joseph Church or the Alvah N. Belding Library. Envelopes will be available at church or at the funeral home.
