Dennis Charles Doty

In Remembrance of Dennis Charles Doty 

(March 19th, 1961 – March 5th, 2023) 

On March 5th, 2023, Dennis Charles Doty was received by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Dennis Doty was born on March 19th, 1961, at Greenville hospital to Ray L Doty and Joyce (Mawby) Doty. Dennis grew up working hard on the family dairy farm near Orleans, MI. He graduated from Belding High School in 1979, then attended Michigan State University and graduated with an associate degree in Dairy Science. At 23 years old, Dennis bought the family farm and continued to milk cows.  

On December 7th, 1985, Dennis would marry his soulmate, Connie (Gorby) Doty, who blessed him with their three children: Andrea, Kevin and Erik. He made the decision to sell the cattle in the early 90’s to be able to spend more time with his wife and kids. Dennis worked at United Rentals in Grand Rapids for several years as a skilled mechanic.  He enjoyed taking family vacations to the Upper Peninsula and Tennessee.

 In 2008 Dennis opened Double DD Equipment Repair. He took pride in providing quality work for his customers.  His sons Kevin and Erik would later join him in repairing machinery and continuing the family business.

In 2010 Dennis started farming again, raising beef cattle and crops alongside his daughter Andrea, which she continues to this day. He had many passions in life, but his greatest joy came from being a husband, father, and especially a grandfather. 

In 2018, Dennis was diagnosed with cancer and began his hard-fought battle, lasting for 5 years. He continued to work at the shop and farm during treatments. Throughout his battle, he showed strength, fortitude, and determination.

Dennis was an extraordinary man who will be remembered for his unbelievable drive, work ethic, vast knowledge of many things, infamous jokester personality, and most importantly, his unconditional love for his family and friends.  

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Ray L Doty & Joyce (Mawby) Doty, his grandparents, Charles and Carrie Doty, Harold and Winona Mawby and his aunt, Carolyn Mawby. He is survived by his wife, Connie, his children; Andrea (Kevin) Doty-Lawson, Kevin (Aubrey) Doty, and Erik (Alex) Doty. Grandchildren, Adam and Charlie Doty (sons of Kevin and Aubrey), his uncle, Stan (Nancy) Mawby, his brothers, Bob (Melissa) Doty, Roger (Tammy) Doty, and many nephews and nieces.  

There will be a celebration of Dennis’s life at a later date.  Cremation services were entrusted to Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Spectrum Health Hospice.
