Daniel L. Pettengill 73 of Fenwick passed away Friday afternoon March 12, 2021 at home under the care of his family and Heartland Hospice. Dan was born on November 8, 1947 in Belding, the son of Vernon and Jeanne (Jacobsen) Pettengill.
He graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1965 and later attended Northwood Institute for radio and TV broadcasting. He also had earned a Journeyman Electrician Certificate. Dan worked for 30 years as a lab technician at Electrolux in Greenville, retiring before they closed. As many know, Dan’s lifelong love was radio, which all started at a young age. Besides working full time at Electrolux, he also was a DJ at many local radio stations, including WZZM,WLAV, WION and the best station of all, his very own WDLP, Fenwick/Sheridan which Dan started in 1999. Dan was very civic minded helping the Belding Lions Club with remote broadcasts at their events, putting together the radio station equipment at the Belrockton Children’s Museum and the countless radio ads he gave to many veteran and nonprofit groups in the Belding, Greenville and Sheridan areas. Dan had a love of nature and enjoyed raising farm animals and growing his own fruit trees and gardens. In his free time, Dan enjoyed his gun collection, biking, sailing, airplanes and the joy of celebrating the holidays. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Dan is loved and survived by his children; Angelica Tant of Grand Rapids, Amy Jo Pettengill of Ionia, Diana Lynn (Trevor) Secord of Mississippi, David Mark Pettengill of Greenville, his grandchildren, Robert Pettengill, Jeffrey Pettengill, Joshua Pettengill, Amber Pettengill, Zach Edwards, Joseph Edwards, Amyra Secord, Addison Secord, Nora Secord, Tyler Jordan Kawleck, Mark Pettengill, Amalia Pettengill, Kadince Collier, Robert Collier, Emily Collier, great grandchildren, Amelia, Kay-Lynn, Ryver, Lorraine, Marley, Emery, Bellamy, Wyatt, Thomas, his father Vernon Pettengill of Florida, his brother and sisters, Steve (Patti) Pettengill of Florida, Diana (Patrick) Hooyman of Pentwater, Laurie Pettengill Grand Rapids and Margo (Gary) of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his mother, two brothers; Mark and Tom and his life companion Marjorie LaVictor.
In keeping with his wish’s cremation has taken place. A time of visitation will be Saturday March 27, 2021 from 2-4 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Belding Museum. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
