Dan Moran Obituary

Daniel G. Moran, 79, of Belding, passed away on August 18, 2021, at Maple Ridge Manor in Lowell, under the loving care of his family and Interim Hospice, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Dan was born on January 15, 1942, in Belding, the son of Paul and Loretta (White) Moran.

The youngest of 5 children, Dan grew up in Belding and enjoyed spending time with his dad at his dad’s car dealership, Moran Motors.  After high school he worked various jobs and started a family. In April of 1973 he married Trish Sower and they spent 23 years together before her death in 1996. He worked on the railroad for many years and eventually ended up working at General Motors in Lansing for over 20 years before retiring. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling to the U.P. every year for vacation, spending time with those he loved and was always up for a good car ride. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, loved looking at old cars, enjoyed trips to Alaska to visit family and loved the beautiful scenery.  A voracious reader, Dan would read upwards of 300 novels a year in his retirement.  He was at the library so much; he found love there. On May 12, 2001, he married Joan Miller, who was the children’s librarian. Dan was a kind, caring and loving man, a man of few words, and a gentle soul. He will be greatly missed.

Surviving Dan are his wife; Joan, his children; Tim Moran, Dan Moran, Cindy Miller, Sam (Kristi) Miller, Sandi (Rich) Lobbezoo, Deb Proos, Dawn (Duanne) Rider, Randy Lake, his sister; Mary Mumby, brother; Bill Moran, numerous grandchildren, along with many other nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Dennis, his previous wife; Trish, his brothers; Jack Moran, Jim Moran, his grandsons Robert “Bobby” Moran, James Miller, and a close brother-in-law; Bud Mumby.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Belding, on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 11am with Fr. Jim Wyse presiding.  Visitation will be one hour prior to mass, at church. Memorial contributions in memory of Dan may be directed to the Alvah N. Belding Library.  Envelopes will be available at church.

Dan’s family would like to thank Maple Ridge Manor, their staff, and Interim Hospice for the wonderful, kind and compassionate care he received the past few months.
