Cornelia Van Zwalenberg, 90, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Sunday, January, 2, 2022 at Mission Point of Belding.
Cornelia was born in Sleeuwijk, the Netherlands, on November 22, 1931, the daughter of Lucas (Dora Winans) Van Drunen. She lived with her family in the Netherlands during World War II, and later in March 1951 the family immigrated to the United States, settling in Holland, Michigan. As a young woman Cornelia worked as an upholsterer at Baker Furniture in Holland. She later relocated to Florida where she earned her degree as a dental assistant. She worked for a number of years as a dental assistant, and later as a dental office manager. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, singing, whistling, playing the harmonica, gardening, riding a tandem bike at high speeds, and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Cornelia was active her whole life, and even in her 70’s, she enjoyed snow skiing and water skiing. She will be greatly missed by her family.
Cornelia is loved and survived by her children, Alisa (Rick) Anderson of Belding, Doreen (David) Kresnak of Alanson, and John (Vicki) Van Zalen of Grand Haven, grandchildren Chad (Sarah) Kresnak of Ada, Katie (Michael) Moore of Traverse City, Rebecca (Craig) Cockerill of Ann Arbor, Amanda (Ben) Blasius of Belding, Eric (Heather) Anderson of Rockford, Jake Van Zalen of Dexter, and Ryan Van Zalen of Florida, great grandchildren, Zander Kresnak, Charles Kresnak, Evelyn Kresnak, Emmet Kresnak, Berkley Carlson, Nash Moore, Colton Moore, Margo Moore, Taylor Blasius, Avery Blasius, Rowan Blasius, Elizabeth Anderson, Leo Anderson, Miles Anderson, Charles Anderson, Haleigh Byrnes, Brindleigh Langsdale, and Ryleigh Langsdale, twin sister Ceclia (Andy) Droge, brother Pete (Kathy) Van Drunen, and sister Lucy (Wesley) Nykamp.
Cornelia was receded in death by her parents, and her sister Jane Zweip.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and the family will remember Cornelia with a private service at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Belding.
