Christopher Joseph Smith

Christopher “Chris” J. Smith, 34, of Ionia, passed away Tuesday evening, February 4, 2020 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Chris was born on May 30, 1985 in Ionia, the son of David and Barbara (Martin) Smith.

He graduated from Ionia High School with the Class of 2003. In earlier years he was a member of the 4-H. Chris enjoyed camping, video games, lego’s, Harry Potter and his animals. Chris married Kelsi Brynn Mitchell in Lowell on October 14, 2017. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Chris is loved and survived by his wife; Kelsi, parents; David (Barbara) Smith of Lyons, brother and sister-in-law;  Carl (Katrina) Smith of Ionia, sisters and brothers-in-law; Kashinda Smith (Ron Slagel) of Belding and Kaitlynn (Adam) Maxwell of Lyons,  niece; Anna, nephew; Ivan, grandmother; Laura Martin of Lyons, and grandparents Duane  (Judy)  Smith,  Kelsi’s family, parents; Brian E. (Lynn) Mitchell of Lowell, siblings; Kile (Brook) Mitchell of Ionia and Kennedy (Noah) Henderson of Chicago, nephews; Liam and Isaiah,  his canine buddy Azar. Chris was preceded in death by his grandfather; Aloysius Martin, grandmother; Addie Martin and great grandparents; Jeannette and Ivan Smith, cousins; Christopher and Brittany.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the First Baptist Church, Lowell with Pastor Jon Pickens officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at church. Visitation will be one hour before the service at church. Committal prayers will be in Easton Township Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the family. Envelopes will be available at church or at the funeral home.
