Shirley E. Freund, 82, of Belding, passed away Friday morning, August 16, 2019 at Laurels of Carson City. Shirley was born on September 30, 1936 in Belding, the daughter of Guy Robert Lake and Elaine Eloise (Johnson) Taylor.
She graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1954. In earlier years she worked as a quality inspection at Wolverine World Wide in Rockford and later as a clerk at the Rite Aid Pharmacy in Belding for many years. She attended Shiloh Community Church and was an avid painter and enjoyed poetry. Shirley always had a cheerful outlook and a song in her heart and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Shirley is loved and survived by her children; Debbie (Rick) Gasper of Wayland, Rick (Debbie) Petersen, Brian (Bonnie) Petersen all of Greenville, Tami Edlin of Belding, Scott (Kimberly) Petersen of Trufant, Robyn (Jack) Gleason of Fondu Lac, WI, grandchildren; Jeremy (Jona) Gasper, Ty (Emily) Gasper, Corey (Kimberly) Petersen, Jessica (Jason) Brenetzke, Heather (Jen) Petersen, Christopher (Shaunta) Petersen, Mark (Laurie) Petersen, Jamie Petersen (Chad), Aaron (Jodi) Petersen, Amanda Kornfehl and Aimee (Drew) Christenson, 19 great great grandchildren, siblings; Laura (Ross) Hoekstra, Barb Wood, sister-in-law; Ellen Lake, Rita (Dan) Jeffrey, Don (Joyce) Jeffrey, step mother; Ivadahl Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Lake, sister Diane Jeffrey, son-in-law Jim Edlin and two step brothers “Skeeter” Taylor and Skip Taylor.
Funeral services will be 2:30 PM Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Shiloh Community Church with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at church. Interment will be in River Ridge Cemetery, Belding. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or Ionia County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at church or at the funeral home.
