Richard D. Barr, 68, of Orleans, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 24, 2018 at Metron of Greenville. Richard was born in Ionia on July 23, 1950, the son of William D. and Alma (Bigsby) Barr.
For many years Richard was a truck driver working for Bob Greene Trucking and Tip Top Gravel. He earned a safe driving award for having traveled over a million miles. He was a donor to the Red Cross and had donated over 10 gallons of blood in his goal of helping others. He enjoyed hunting especially for bear and racoon, always had a big garden and gave away a lot of what he grew. Richard loved spending time and helping family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
He was married on August 13, 1971 at Long Lake to Sandra Ann Beach. Richard is loved and survived by his wife Sandy, and their children; Beth (Rick) Haverstick, Rick Barr and Don (Carmen) Barr, grandchildren; Zach(Nicole) Barr, Tyler (Cheyenne) Haverstick, Justin Barr, Nick Barr, Mark Barr Jr., Kayden Barr, Mario Barr, Daniel Haverstick, Edie Barr, Vincet Warnes, DeAngelo Barr, Emily Haverstick, Mike Haverstick, Matt Haverstick and Kim Oliver, great grandchildren; Kaisynn, Alder and one on the way Madlynn Grace, mother; Alma Barr, siblings; Bill (Lynn) Barr, Linda (Leo) Rutz, Pat (Mike) VanHouten, MaryJo (Larry) Fitzpatrick and Karen (Steve) Ferguson, his in-laws; Mark (Ruamy) Beach, Ed (Cathy) Beach, Dale Beach, Karen (Doug) Jones, Nancy (Greg) Edwards, Sue Beach, Daisy (Pete) Wiseman, along with several nieces and nephews, his best friends; Paul (Kay) Conklin and Albert Hopkins. He was preceded in death by his father, brothers; Timmy, Brian, Danny and Randy, sister; Phyllis. The family would like to offer a special thank you for all the love and support given to Richard by his friends and the wonderful staff at Metron of Greenville.
A Celebration of life dinner will be 6:00 PM Monday, August 6, 2018 at Shiloh Community Church with Pastor Ken Harger offering a brief prayer service. Private interment will be in Orleans Township Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
