Kenneth L. Young, 72, of Belding, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 1, 2018 at Spectrum Health United Campus in Greenville. Kenneth was born on September 24, 1945 in Lakeview, MI to Laura (Wandel) and Arthur Young. He was raised by his grandparents Claude and Florence Young.
Ken attended Lakeview Schools and graduated from Tri County High School with the Class of 1964. He married Patricia Ann Sage Church on May 3, 1980. Ken worked various jobs starting on his grandparents’ farm with uncles Claude and Max. He then went on to work at Sandyland Farms in the 1960s; he was hired by TSC in 1968. Ken started as a janitor and worked his way up to district manager ending a 24 year career in 1992. He was involved in opening 17 new stores. The next 24 years Ken ran his own pallet and trucking businesses in Belding. He spent 7 years with the Michigan National Guard serving his country, including during the Detroit Riots.
Ken is loved and survived by his children; Kim Ypma of Hudsonville, Richard (Tracie) Church, daughter-in-law Jodi Church, grandchildren; Kim of Salem, NH, Keegan, Makenna, Danika, Karlee, Obec all of Belding, Murillo Castro his grandson who was an exchange student from Brazil, siblings; Dean, Joann, Glen, Kathy, Gary, Eldon, James and Mary along with his best friend of 46 years Iva Essenyi and her children; Ronda (Jim) Boven, Rick Corey, Ronald Corey, grandchildren; Noah, Kaci, Cody, Tara, Temperance, Tyler, Jason, Austin and Andrew. Ken was preceded by his wife Patricia on September 2, 2005, brother Robert, uncles; John Young, Keith Young, Max Young and aunt Winifred Edison.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Shiloh Community Church with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 6, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home. Interment will be in Otisco Township Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Belding Fire Department.
