Gene V. Burns, 67, of Ionia, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Gene was born on November 28, 1951 in Belding the son of Gene D. and Frieda L. (Hacker) Burns. He graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1971. He later attended Montcalm Community College. Gene retried from Extruded Metal in Belding after 41 years of service. He had worked recently as a stocker at Menards in Ionia. Gene enjoyed camping, fishing and family time. He had a good sense of humor, was a member of AA for 17 years and for many years loved the Christmas season when he played Santa Claus at many events around the area. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Gene is loved and survived by his wife Paula and his children; Cara ( Brian) Bruining of Wyoming and Janice ( Ed) Abshagen of Middleville, his grandchildren; Gabby ( Michael) Hallatschek, Jacklyn Bruining, Augustine Abshagen and Paige Abshagen, his mother Frieda Mosher of Sheridan, his sisters; Mable Simmons of Texas, Dianne ( Pete) Bykerk of Six Lakes, Cheri ( William) Honson of Wyoming and Sandy ( Scott) Thomas of Apache Junction, AZ, his aunt Mary Jane ( Rick) Johnston, and special friends Jeff, Kathy, Bert, Bertha, Don, Kathy, Roger, Jackie and many more and his two faithful canine companions; Darla Ann and Bentley Joseph, both miniature Alaskan Eskimos. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services will be 11: 00 AM Thursday January 24, 2019 at Shiloh Community Church with Pastors Ken Harger and Fred Lab officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday evening January 23, 2019 from 6-8 pm at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding .Memorials may be given to the family or AA of Ionia. Interment will take place in the Spring in Greene Cemetery, Belding.
