Joanne Chaffins

Joanne Chaffins, age 89, of Orleans, passed away at SKLD Ionia surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. She was born in North Baltimore, OH on May 26, 1934, the daughter of Clifford and Edna (Hosier) Campbell. She is survived by her children, Mary (Wayne) Frantz of Florida, Jerry Chaffins of Belding, Elaine (Larry) Riek of Kentwood, Clettis Allen (Linda) Chaffins of Sheridan, Connie (Todd) Waterman of Ionia; grandchildren, Wendie (Brian) Kienutske, Meranda (Eric) Larson, Melissa (Keith Boartz) Chaffins, Angie (Ryan) DeWitt, Jerry “Bear” (Amanda) Chaffins, Connie (Lee) Davis, Stefanie Chene, Lexi (Justin) Bradberry, Sarah (David) Norton, Jacob Chaffins, and Chad (Rachael) Haney; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clettis Chaffins; parents, Clifford and Edna Chaffins; step-parents, Henry and Bessie Srigley; and siblings, Clifford Campbell, Charles Campbell, Larry Campbell, and Janice Decker. As a young girl Joanne was raised in the church as her father was a well-loved minister. From actively participating in the church she grew to know the importance of her Christian faith, which only grew as the years went on. She was a lover of gospel music and loved to share her faith with her family. For many years she had been a member of Orleans Bible Church. For 28 years she was a custodian at Electrolux until her retirement. Throughout her life her family was most important to her. She had an instrumental role in raising her grandchildren. Being close to her family made her happy. Joanne had many hobbies that she enjoyed, including: bowling, washer toss and crocheting. She loved to make gifts to give to her family. Every year for Christmas she would crochet dish rags to hand out as presents. The older she got the more “interesting” her crochet gifts became. Joanne had a strong will for life and fought the good fight until the very end. Funeral services for Joanne will take place at Shiloh Community Church on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 11:00 am. Rev. Mark VanKleck of Orleans Bible Church will serve as officiant. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Johnson Feuerstein Funeral Home. Gravesides services will be held at Orleans Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Orleans Bible Church.
